Professor Iven Klineberg, AM,RFD, BSc, PhD, FRACDS, FICD
Professor of Prosthodontics University of Sydney. A registered oral prosthodontist with particular interests in clinical management of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, and oral implant rehabilitation. Research interests within these disciplines include, occlusion and cranio-mandibular disorders with studies on jaw muscle function and 3-dimensional TM joint movement; and implant restoration with concerns for optimising function and proprioceptive control (osseoperception).Vanik Kaufmann-Jinoian, ZTLM
Vanik Kaufmann-Jinoian was born 1958 in Calcutta India, he grew up in Switzerland in a city close to Basel, where he want to school and did his training as a certified dental technician. In the following years he optimised his dental skills in various dental laboratories in Switzerland. During his training he spent one year in the USA learning marketing. Upon his return to Switzerland he worked for the Vita Company. He was at that time the youngest international ceramic demonstrator in the world and teaching ceramic courses worldwide. In 1990 he opened his own dental laboratory in Switzerland. He owns a very high-quality dental lab close to Basel, which covers all the aspects of modern dentistry. Various dental companies use the lab for testing of new dental materials.
Vanik is very involved in the research and development of new techniques. He was one of the initiators for the Cerec CAD-CAM system for dental labs. Vanik has also published a book and many articles in different dental magazines around the world and is a well known speaker at major symposiums.
Christopher Ho, BDS, Grad Dipl Clin Dent (Oral Implants)
Christopher Ho graduated in Dentistry with First Class Honours at the University of Sydney and completed postgraduate studies in the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in Oral Implants.
He is a regulary invited lecturer on aesthetic and implant dentistry within Australia and internationally, including being keynote speaker and performing live presentations for several world conferences. Locally he has been involved with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Sydney and for the Australian Dental Association. He is the recipient of several scholarships for research and has received numerous prizes for clinical and academic excellence.
He is at the forefront of the latest developments in dentistry and involved with the evaluation and trials of new dental products for a range of prominent manufacturers.
He maintains a successful private practice centered on comprehensive aesthetic and implant dentsitry in Sydney, Australia.
Professor Jocelyn Feine, DDS, MS, HDR
Jocelyne Feine is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Dentistry of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Professor Feines research interests involve the assessment of therapies intended to improve function and life quality in populations with chronic orofacial conditions, such as edentulism and pain. In particular, Professor Feine develops and carries out transdisciplinary randomized clinical trials with expert teams of local and international collaborators. She is author of numerous book chapters, and her manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed dental and medical journals. Professor Feine has presented her work at university and professional conferences worldwide. She is presently the Associate Editor for Clinical Reports with the Journal of Dental Research.
Professor Jan Lindhe, OD, Odont Dr(hc), MD(hc)
Dr Lindhe has dedicated more than 35 years in periodontal clinical research since he was a graduate student at University of Lund in Sweden. His impressive list of research, publications and contributions to the field of periodontology is well known throughout the world. His early research studied the influence of hormones on gingival tissues. This was followed by a series of classical findings on the role of occlusion in periodontal disease. His next focus was the evaluation of wound healing, inflammatory response to periodontal pathogens, chemotherapeutic intervention, plaque control, new attachment formation, and mechanism of plaque formation. More recently he has provided a valuable body of new findings that help us understand the characteristics and behaviour of peri-implant tissues in various clinical situations. Dr Lindhe took a leave of absence as the Dean of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden to serve as the Dean of School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania from 1983 - 1988.
He is presently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology at the University of Gothenburg and Associate Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Dental Research. He has received numerous awards and honors, most recently as Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and England. He has served as editor to many prestigious journals and authored several periodontal textbooks.
Professor Marcelo Chain, DDS, MS, PhD
Marcelo Chain is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomaterials at Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Brasil. He is a Coordinator and Director of the Graduate program (master) in Biomaterials at the UFSC in Brazil and Professor of the Graduate Residency courses in Operative Dentistry at the Brazilian Association of Dentistry (UFSC), Master of Science in Biomaterials (MS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham - USA. He has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham - USA. Residency in Endodontics and Operative Dentistry - UFSC - Brazil. Researcher and Consultant of the National Agency of Investigation (CNPq).
Author and Co-author/colaborator in 9 books related to Aesthetic Dentistry and Dental Materials. Author of 42 papers published in National and International magazines mainly in the areas of adhesion, aesthetic restorations, adhesive systems, ceramics and composites. Professor Nairn Wilson, OBE, BDS, MSc, PhD, FDSRCS, DRDRCS
Nairn Wilson is Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Dean and Head of the King's College and St Thomas' Hospitals. His many positions include Chairman of the Council of Deans and Heads of the UK Dental Schools and Editor in Chief of the Quintessentials of Dental Practice Series. His interests and special expertise encompass tooth-coloured restorative systems, applied dental materials science, clinical trial methodology, and the modern management of caries. Michael Mandikos received his Dental Degree with honours, from the University of Queensland, and completed a three-year residency program in Prosthodontics at the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA. He has researched direct and indirect composite resins and published in Australian and International journals on clinical and dental materials topics. He is a Visiting Specialist Prosthodontist to the University of Queensland Dental School and the Royal Australian Air Force and is a Reviewer of the Australian Dental Journal, Quintessence International and Clinica. He is a product evaluator for several dental companies and had presented programs and dental meetings throughout Australia and Southeast Asia.Alessandro Devigus, Dr.med.dent
Dr Devigus graduated in 1987 in Zurich (Switzerland). He has worked in private practice since 1990 and is a CEREC instructor at the Zurich Dental School (Clinic for Geriatric and Special Care Dentistry). He is a visiting Senior lecturer University Freiburg (Dept. Prosthodontics, Chair Prof. J. R.Strub) and The University Basel (Chair Prof. Th.Lambrecht). He's involved in research at the University of Geneva (Dept. Prof. I.Krejci). Professor Stanley Malamed, DDS
Stanley Malamed was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, graduating from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1969. He then completed a dental internship and residency in anesthesiology at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx, New York before serving for 2 years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. In 1973, he joined the faculty of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, in Los Angeles, where today he is Professor of Anesthesia & Medicine. Professor Malamed is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, as well as a recipient of the Heidebrink Award [1996] from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the Horace Wells Award from the International Federation of Dental Anesthesia Societies, 1997 (IFDAS).
He has authored more than 135 scientific papers and 17 chapters in various medical and dental journals and textbooks in the areas of physical evaluation, emergency medicine, local anesthesia, sedation and general anesthesia. In addition, Professor Malamed is the author of three widely used textbooks, published by CV Mosby: Handbook of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office (6th edition 2006); Handbook of Local Anesthesia (5th edition 2004); and Sedation - a guide to patient management (4th edition 2003) and two interactive DVD's: Emergency Medicine (2004) and Malamed's Local Anesthetic Technique DVD (2004). In his spare time he is and avid runner, exercise enthusiast, and admits an addiction to the New York Times crossword puzzle, which he has done daily since his freshman year in dental school
Assistant Professor Markus Schlee, DDS
Markus Schlee has a private practice in Forchheim since 1990. He holds the specialist qualifications in periodontology of the DGP and the EDA and the specialist qualifications in implantology of the BDIZ and DGI. He is a member of numerous professionals associations, including the Neue Gruppe, the DGP, the DGI, the AAP, and the APW. He is assistant Professor at the Steinbeis University in Berlin. He teaches at the APW adn the DGI and has lectured and published extensively, both nationally and internationally (US, Asia - Pacific, Australia, Europe) in the fields of periodontology, implantology, soft-tissue management, microsurgery, piezosurgery, and aesthetics.Associate Professor Stephen Wallace, DDS
Stephen Wallace is a 1971 graduate of Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry with a Certificate of Periodontics. He has been on the faculty of the New York University Department of Implant Dentistry for 13 years attaining the academic rank of Associate Professor. He is a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointergration.
He lectures at home and abroad on issues relating to dental implantology and periodontics. He is the author of an evidence-based review of the sinus augmentation procedure published in the Annals of Periodontology as well as numerous journal articles and textbook chapters. He is co-editor of a text book on sinus elevation surgery published in Italy and is now being translated into 8 languages. In addition to his faculty appointment, he maintains a practice for periodontics in Waterbury, CT.

Doug Stewart is the Program Director for the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Conscious Sedation and Pain Control) run through the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney where he is a Clinical Associate Professor. The Diploma is the only postgraduate course in dental sedation run in Australia and subjects covered inlcude sedation, pain management. The Department also has a Medical Simulation Centre where dentists and their staff can be trained in common medical emergencies. Doug is also the President-elect of the International Federation of Dental Anesthesiology Societies and the next international meeting is being held on the Gold Coast in Queensland during October 2009.
